The Lives of Autistic Women

As Portrayed Through Abstract Textile Portraits

Following my autism diagnosis in 2022, I had a strong desire to channel my experience being a high-masking, late-diagnosed autistic woman through art. I did this by interviewing four other autistic women or assigned-females-at-birth and created two textile portraits based on these interviews, as well as one self-portrait. The content of these portraits addresses the lack of autism diagnoses in women compared to men, co-morbid disorders, and the phenomenon of masking through the manipulation of different fibers. With these interviews and portraits, I completed an Honors in the Major research thesis to supplement my degree. You can read my paper research here!
